Opened in 2007, Le Périscope is a venue dedicated to the creation and dissemination of free music.
Focusing on jazz and improvised music, its artistic programme covers a wide spectrum that also includes new world music, electronic and traditional music, experimental aesthetics, rock and hip-hop.
Halfway between a music laboratory and a cabinet of sonic curiosities, it is an intimate venue, open to all, where today’s changing musical aesthetics and practices find a platform for expression. Its activities include nearly 150 concerts per year, a programme of cultural cafés (screenings, debates, meetings) and cultural action projects that fuel collective reflection within the project.
Le Périscope is a concert hall, creative space, residence, shared office space and resource centre, hosting a constellation of projects and initiatives serving artists, audiences and creativity. As a cultural engineering hub, Le Périscope also runs Les Ateliers Lobster, a support scheme for entrepreneurs in contemporary music, which assists more than 100 project leaders every year.
A committed player in an innovative and experimental scene, Le Périscope advocates a model of ecological transition based on cooperation. Faced with the climate emergency, it is developing a pioneering approach based on experimentation and the sharing of concrete solutions that can be adapted and replicated across the sector.
